Online Poker Ban

Sheldon Adelson, the man who is trying everything he knows, and using every avenue he can to implement the Online Poker ban, is back in the news. This time the casino owner from Las Vegas is rumoured to be testing the waters with democrat senator Harry Reid, in assisting him to get a bill passed that will, with one stroke ban online gaming across the USA, even though his casinos do online sports betting.

Senator Reid is apparently concerned about losing his senate seat to Nevada governor, Brian Sandoval so is currying favour with the opposition.

In order to get the banning order to happen, Congress needs to pass an ‘Omnibus spending bill’, these are normally done behind closed doors because of the size and complexity of the document, but during the process of this type of bill a lot of ‘horse trading’ takes place, which favours Adelson.

There is a realisation happening in online gaming, in that the market is not as huge as marketers would like to think, hence the closure recently of Ultimate Poker, leaving just two operators in Nevada. Adelson might slow down the process, but sure as nuts as long as the various states are receiving financial gains from online gaming it will progress forward.
